Since some days ago, I receive 53 advice messages in the Backwpup dashborad:
XML ERROR (23): EntityRef: expecting ';'
Beginning on 9/7/2015 my weekly backup started getting these messages:
[14-Sep-2015 03:04:26] 3. Try to backup database …

I have not made any recent changes to my BackWPup job or to my underlying website. http://www.veresapiens.org
I have a site which is generating the following errors when I include the XML Export in my BackWPup job:
WARNING: XML ERROR (2):
WARNING: XML RECOVERABLE (1): xmlSAX2StartElementNs: out of memory
WARNING: XML ERROR (5):
The errors are not so serious as to generate an error email message, and the backup file does seem to include an XML file, but still—even BackWPup is telling me to resolve the errors for correct execution.
I turned off all my plugins and generated an error-free backup, and then turned the plugins on one-by-one. When I reactivated Jetpack, I got the error. But instead of just blaming Jetpack, I tried activating a bunch of plugins and not Jetpack and I got the error. So I think it's plugin volume that's the problem. I don't have a crazy number of plugins running (9).
I am able to export manually through WordPress tools. The resulting XML file is 32MB.
The ProPhoto WordPress theme is very popular with photographers. It's a pretty good theme, but seems to do things its own way in many areas.
One of them is thumbnanils - when it creates thumbnails it uses a non-standard naming scheme, examples of the filesnames are below. The actual numbers vary
DSC_3837.jpg
DSC_3837(pp_w278_h215).jpg
DSC_3837(pp_w450_h348).jpg
DSC_3837(pp_w503_h389).jpg
DSC_3837(pp_w556_h430).jpg
DSC_3837(pp_w568_h440).jpg
Is there any way you could exclude these thumbnails from your backup? It would be a significant benefit for many photographers with media heavy websites. Heck if you even give me a hint where to start I may be able to do it in the source, but I'm not a PHP programmer and I'd probably make a bit of a mess of it.
Hi,
I'm new on this forum and first of all hi to everybody.
I'm trying to set the backup to dropbox (I already made the authorization with dropbox) but when I try to run the backup I got this message...
Cannot create folder: /web/htdocs/www.italiaamoremio.it/home/wp-content/uploads/backwpup-e40449-logs
Any idea?
I am fairly new to web site building and brand new to WordPress.
I am working through building my site (www.appletechtalk.com) and just installed the BackWPup plug-in. When I run the back up (which is going to dropBox, I get the following error:
WARNING: Folder "/homepages/1/d212314182/htdocs/app590243429/.metadata" is not readable!
The end of the log says I should fix it but I don't really know where to start. Any help would be appreciated. The full log file is below for reference.

This problem was reported over 10 months ago by myself
Cannot delete entries from BackWPup Manage Backup Archives
I got a reply saying you had identified a fix and it would be resolved in the next release.
I Waited ages.... but its still not fixed.
a flaw in a great plugin :(
thanks anyway
Kind regards
Ray
When you uncheck the option "Show BackWPup links in admin bar", the admin of BackWPup is shown in english instead of the localized version.
Hi. I am getting this ERROR on scheduled jobs:
[06-Oct-2015 03:00:42] ERROR: No destination correctly defined for backup! Please correct job settings.
But whenever I run it manually, it's getting success.
Does BackWPup support SFTP connections or just FTP?
Hi there,
since about 2 oder 3 weeks i get this error message:
Ordner /var/www/vhosts/xxxxxx.de/httpdocs/xxx-ordner/upload ist nicht erlaubt, bitte wähle einen anderen.
There will be no backup, no nothing at all. When i manually start the backup, then the above error occurred.
Any ideas?
Joe
I'm using this plugin and the FTP upload part fails all the time, please note I'm using a non-standard FTP port (not 21 or 22). I tried the same settings on FileZilla and Cyberduck, to my surprise it worked fine. I was able to confirm the settings worked outside wordpress.
I'm using Wp 4.1.1, BackWPup 3.1.4, php 5.5.20, php mem limit 256M, ftp is enable in php info settings. Could it be blocked by something in htaccess? or limitations in the plugin itself?
I realize this is a free version, i hope you respond to resolve this.

Hello,
I am receiving a timeout error while BackWPUp is trying to compress my backup set.
Pastebin link to error text: http://pastebin.com/8PRQqnDf
I think it's about a 400MB set of files. Is that too large?
Thanks
Hi,
I have moved a site to a host that does not allow lookback connections.
This means I am receiving the following BackWPup errors when trying to run a back-up:
Server self connect: The HTTP response test get an error "Failure when receiving data from the peer"
Log folder: Logs folder /wp-content/uploads/Backup_Logs/ not exist.
How I do to fix this problem, so I can back-up as usual?
Thanks, Chris
Hi,
Yesterday (1st Nov 2015), I restored a backup created by backwpup (from 15th Oct) successfully using FTP and PHPMyAdmin. However, some plug-ins, including backwpup, were missing. I then re-installed the backwpup plug-in. All the old backups were gone.
Is there any way to retrieve the old backups?
I've got this plugin installed on two sites/WP installs. Both are set to send the back up to an ftp directory.
One site works fine the other gives me the 'ERROR: Cannot connect to FTP server:' msg every time. I've double checked the ftp settings in the plugin, re-confirmed the location on the actual ftp, even told it to send the back up to the same directory as the working site. Still no luck.
What else can I do to troubleshoot and fix the problem?
Thanks.
Hello. I'm trying to create a backup for my website with this plugin.
WP version: 4.2.5 (i know, old)
Plugin version: 3.2.1
I'm trying to make a full backup and everything goes fine with no errors, but when I download the file, sometimes it just stops mid-download for no reason, but after 2-3 attempts at downloading it, I finally manage to fully download the backup file, but when i try to open the archive Winrar says its corrupted.
Can I get some help please?
Thanks!
About two years ago this question was already asked. I wonder if this might be interesting for others too, since I rely on my own cloud server with OwnCloud for some years now and I don't plan to change that.
Hi,
I've just installed BackWPup and want to backup to DropBox - but I can't see anywhere to add my DropBox credentials
Here's an extract from the Information page:
WordPress version 4.3.1
BackWPup version 3.2.2 Get pro.
PHP version 5.3.28 (64bit)
MySQL version 5.5.42
cURL version 7.19.7
cURL SSL version NSS/3.18 Basic ECC
cURL version looks quite old
Could this be the problem ?
Regards,
Mike
I just installed BackWPup and then my site crashed. I can't even get into the admin panel. I'm not a designer, just trying to do this myself, so all the messages I see about changing code is like greek to me. Besides that, I can't get into my site at all so what can I do? This is the error: Fatal error: Class 'BackWPup_Install' not found in /home/m37208180/public_html/wp-content/plugins/backwpup/backwpup.php on line 72
Thanks for any help.
